Robotic Class 4 Laser Spinal Decompression

Our clinic combines non-surgical spinal decompression with a robotic Class 4 therapeutic laser delivered simultaneously. This approach may be considered for appropriately selected patients with certain disc-related back, neck and nerve symptoms. The robotic component is the laser; the decompression equipment itself is not robotic.
  1. How spinal decompression works

Our non-surgical spinal decompression system uses a specialized computer-controlled table to apply carefully regulated decompression forces to the spine.

Rather than applying a constant pull, the system uses programmed cycles of pulling, holding and releasing. Treatment parameters are adjusted according to the patient's condition, treatment area and response.

The goal is to reduce mechanical loading on affected spinal structures and help manage certain disc-related back, neck and nerve symptoms.

  2. Why we combine the robotic Class 4 laser with decompression

Our robotic Class 4 therapeutic laser is delivered simultaneously during the spinal decompression treatment.

Laser therapy is used to help manage pain, inflammation and surrounding muscle tension. Therapeutic laser energy interacts with cellular processes involved in energy production and tissue repair.

Research suggests potential benefits involving pain modulation, inflammatory signalling, local microcirculation and cellular energy production.

  3. Our integrated approach

By delivering the two therapies simultaneously, our goal is to support surrounding tissues and patient comfort during controlled spinal decompression.

This integrated approach is a distinctive feature of our clinic. Controlled research has not established that this combination is superior to decompression alone. The robotic component is the Class 4 laser, not the decompression table. Results vary and are not guaranteed.

Robotic Class 4 Laser with Non-Surgical Spinal Decompression

Our Treatment Goals

  • Decreased Pain and Inflammation
  • Better Mobility
  • Improved Quality of Life

Who May Be a Candidate?

Suitability is assessed individually. We may assess patients with:
  • Bulging and herniated spinal discs
  • Degenerative disc disease
  • Sciatica and radiculopathy
  • Selected presentations of spinal stenosis
  • Persistent or recurring neck and lower back pain
  • Symptoms that have not improved satisfactorily after two or more approaches
  • Persistent symptoms following spinal surgery, when medically appropriate
  • An interest in non-surgical options before considering more invasive care

Spinal instability, certain prior surgeries, advanced osteoporosis and significant neurological deficits may make decompression inappropriate. Medical evaluation is recommended when indicated.

Why Choose Us?

At Laser Spinal Decompression Clinic, we review your symptoms, history and available imaging to assess treatment suitability. Our complimentary initial phone consultation helps determine whether further assessment is appropriate.

Our goals are to reduce pain, improve mobility and help you return to meaningful daily activities. Results vary and are not guaranteed.

Schedule a complimentary initial phone consultation for non-emergency symptoms. New bowel or bladder dysfunction, saddle numbness or progressive weakness requires immediate medical assessment rather than a routine booking.

Clinical Case Studies

Clinical case reports involving the combined spinal decompression and laser technology used in our clinic have documented changes in spinal imaging and patient symptoms.

In a 2024 case report by Dr. John Zielonka in Ottawa, follow-up imaging of one patient, Jim E., reported:
  • A 200% increase in measured L5–S1 disc height, from 0.89 mm to 2.67 mm.
  • An 82.5% increase in measured L4–L5 disc height.
  • A reported 47% improvement in the L3–L4 spondylolisthesis measurement.

These observations are interesting but come from an individual case involving multiple treatments, including spinal decompression, laser therapy and other interventions. They do not establish that decompression alone reverses disc degeneration or spondylolisthesis, and results cannot be generalized to every patient.

Robotic Laser Spinal Decompression is a non-surgical service that may be considered for appropriately assessed patients with disc herniations, disc bulges, degenerative disc changes, spinal stenosis, sciatica, and certain causes of neck or back pain. Individual suitability is determined following an assessment.
